04/16/2012 Flax, Mona Flax retiring after years at hospital  (Byline: Laura Taylor)
IN BRIEF: After 36 years in the health industry, Mona Flax has retired from her job as Chief Development and Marketing Officer at Madison County Hospital to pursue something else entirely, Personal Histories.
  The Madison Press

SUMMARY: Throughout my career, I've developed new programs to help others. My focus has been on organizing meaningful volunteer opportunities. I've helped volunteers tackle everything from providing patient services to raising millions of dollars to fund hospital equipment and facilities, and create funds to help patients who can't afford care. My responsibilities also included customer service initiatives and telling the hospital's story throughout the community. I've also had a lifelong passion for old photographs and family stories. Fifteen years ago, I became an avid scrapbooker and later learned to create digital memory books. When I learned about Personal Historians and what they do, I immediately recognized the opportunity for an encore career which would combine my professional expertise and personal passions. As a Personal Historian, I am helping others write their life stories. My goal is to turn a person's memories and photos into a family keepsake. Research indicates this is a powerful and rewarding experience for those who share their stories. People often find peace and pleasure in the process, and it's comforting for them to know their special memories and photographs are being preserved for children and grandchildren they may never know.   Column/Show
